About Us
The East African Women’s Foundation (EAWF) is a non-profit community association that has worked with the East African community in Melbourne at a grass roots level since 2007, providing casework, advocacy and settlement and referral services as well as successfully running many events and projects to address community needs.
With the help of a few dedicated staff , enthusiastic volunteers, funding bodies and partnerships with, and support from, many other organisations in Melbourne the EAWF has had a significant beneficial impact on the quality of life of the East African community in Melbourne, improving outcomes for women and their families. |

Social groups run by EAWF have helped counter isolation and built new support networks.
Programs for young people have built their skills and confidence, improved pathways to education and employment and improved wellbeing, and engagement with a positive future in Australia. Community Forums have improved relationships with the police and helped parents access information and support to assist young people. Cultural events have celebrated and shared Somali culture with the wider community. Community Health initiatives have tackled issues such as the abuse of Khat and female genital mutilation. We are extremely grateful to the financial support we have received from many different funding bodies. We hope to receive continued support in the future to allow us to maintain our current programs and are always seeking ways to expand our programs and initiatives to offer greater support to the community. |
The EAWF has Deductible Gift Recipient status. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible. We welcome new volunteers! Please contact us if you have time, energy and enthusiasm to work on interesting, life enhancing projects! |
